The late 80's and early 90's were by far the most exciting time you could imagine with recurring series of THE NEW SMOTHERS BROTHERS COMEDY HOUR, two and three-week long appearances in the casino cities like Vegas and Atlantic City, as well as the occasional guest appearances on late-night shows. It actually got to the point that Tom would ocassionally farm out his radio interviews to me when he just couldn't do another one. I always enjoyed doing them, since I was as big a fan of THE SMOTHERS BROTHERS as anyone. Dick and I actually went into the studio and did a guest appearance on a radio station in Dallas once. Believe me, I was no substitute for Tom! It was all new, exciting, and a little scary at times, but certainly worth it. Tom and David Carroll very gently broke me into conducting the Vegas bands and symphony orchestras for them. The time before the rehearsal was nerve racking, lining up the music, touching bases with the players. But once I gave the the timp roll cue at "SHOWTIME,"
it's the greatest feeling in the world!
